Our 2010 Artist Lineup

Our 2010 Artist line up is as follows:

J Blackfoot
From the onset of his career, J. Blackfoot has kept himself and his music rooted in real-life experiences. Blackfoot’s career began the way all young Artist wish for: “I was hangin’ out with some friends on McLemore Venue, where STAX RECORDS was located. We were singin’ some harmony, like the old “Do-Wop” songs. David Porter, (producer at STAX RECORDS) walked by. A friend knew David and said to him, “You gotta hear this cat Blackfoot sing”. So we went across the street to a place where there was a jukebox. I played Wilson Picket’s “I’m In Love”, and Otis Redding’s “Shout Bam-A-Lama”, and sang along with the records and David liked it. I got an audition at STAX RECORDS and things took off from there.” From his time as lead-vocalist on six albums and fifteen singles with “The Soul Children”, with the hits, “The Sweeter He Is”, “Move Over”, “I’ll Understand”, and “Hearsay”, Blackfoot learned that, “You’ve got to feel what you sing”! Unfortunately, at the height of their prominence, STAX RECORDS experienced its untimely end, sending Blackfoot and “The Soul Children” on hiatus. Nonetheless, Blackfoot, knowing how to survive the hard times, reemerged with a new and distinctive presence. From his overwhelmingly successful debut solo album, “City Slicker”, with it’s chart topping single, “TAXI”, (for which he received the 1984 Soul Train “New Artist of the Year Award”), to his “Physical Attraction” and “U-Turn” LPs, Blackfoot has established himself as a consistent solo performer. Between tours in Japan and Italy, Blackfoot completed his “Love-Aholic” CD that has to its credit the successful single “Just One Lifetime”, a duet featuring the debut of the vocal artistry of Ann Hines. With the subsequent release of his “Room Service” and “Reality” albums, J. Blackfoot again proved that he had the ability to hold his own. Once again, Blackfoot has served up his captivating and charismatic vocal style on his releases “Having An Affair” and “Same Time Same Place” on Basix Music Records produced by Larry Dodson, lead-singer of the legendary “Barkays”. Teaming up with two of his former STAX RECORDS label-mates: the “Barkays”, Larry Dodson and James Alexander, as producers, J. Blackfoot is currently taking radio by storm with his latest cd, “It Aint Over Till It’s Over which was released on JEA/RightNow Records April 18, 2006. This CD also features a breath-taking duet with Lenny Williams entitled, “I’m Just A Fool For You” and a part 2 of the same song which features a power packed performance from the prince of southern soul Sir Charles Jones which rose all the way to 1 in many markets in over 50 cities, just more proof that J. Blackfoot remains “The Voice and Soul of R&B”.

Wishing to enhance and expand upon her son’s talents; his mother, passionately immersed him into music and on occasions, allowed him to sit in for her drummer on some of her performances. Sergio joined and became a very devoted member of all of his attending school’s bands and youth ensembles; earning him the reputation as a very talented and aspiring young musician, which grew exceedingly and lead him to several gigs as a drummer for a variety of bands. Upon entering high school, Sergio had started learning musical theory and knew how to play six musical instruments! By his junior year he decided to add piano and guitar to his roster and excelled at both of them as well. After graduating from high school, Sergio worked with several local bands, which resulted in the formation of the very successful duo “Mix Match.” Sergio, along with his music partner, Keith Burns, covered a variety of genres ranging from country to pop, R&B and Motown. The duo stayed together for eleven years, and within those years toured Italy, performing alongside and producing the albums for his family’s gospel group; “ The Davis Family”. In 1995, while Sergio was producing a local artist, the legendary pimpadelic funk master, Morris Day (best known as the break out star of the movie sensation Purple Rain and the legendary group The Time) was in town filming a movie. While the artist’s sister was in the mall during this time, she ran into Morris and gave him a copy of Sergio’s demo. Two days later, Morris contacted him resulting in a long-time business relationship and friendship. In 1997, Morris signed Sergio to a three year contract as a producer and songwriter with Morris Day Entertainment; giving him the boost he needed to launch his own independent career as a recording artist. In winter 2004, Sergio released his long awaited debut single “Start It Up”; a funky club groove that is still climbing the Southern Soul and Blues charts. His album named after the chart-topping single was just recently released in December of 2005, and as Sergio describes the album best, it is a “blues gumbo- A delicious combination of all of his musical influences.”

Jeff Floyd
Jacksonville, FL, native Jeff Floyd (born October 1965) is a throwback Southern soul singer who conjures up images and the aural extremities of the genre's best purveyors, notably Otis Clay and Bobby Womack. His music evokes emotions and feelings that linger long after the song has ended. A start in his church's choir piqued Floyd's interest in music to the point of becoming proficient on many instruments, which helped tremendously in his songwriting, with his baby being the bass guitar. Floyd's mastery of instruments made him an employable commodity who has performed behind some of the industry's giants on the road. He recorded for William Bell's Wilbe Records, but cut an album prior to that association entitled Changing Times, originally issued on his Jeff Floyd Music, and reissued on Japan's P-Vine Records in 1993. Floyd headlined a concert with Trudy Lynn, and the Total Package Band at the Narni Black Festival in Italy, October of 2000. And he played regularly during the '90s with his crew, Jazz Jeff Floyd and the Sweat Band at the Contemporary Jazz Lounge in downtown Jacksonville, as well as performing opening-act duties for many of the major urban artists that rolled into Jacksonville, including a two-day concert with the Temptations at a Mother's Day show at Metropolitan Park.

Wilson Meadows
Journeyman Southern soul singer Wilson Meadows started out as a member of the doo wop group the Zircons, who released several singles in the late '60s. After parting ways with the Zircons, he began performing with his siblings as the Meadows Brothers, who charted in 1977 with the hit "I Can't Understand." In the '90s, Meadows began releasing albums under his own name, including Memories in 1997, Dealing Real in 2000, Choices in 2002, Back to Basics in 2004, and Love Bomb in 2006.
There's no doubt that Wilson Meadows brings something very special to the table, a knack for extracting the soulfulness in songs with great melodies. Thus, "Dedicated To The One I Love," "She's Gone," "Love Bomb" and "I Got The Right One" from Love Bomb work spendidly not only musically but emotionally. They tug all the right strings of listeners who love love songs, and they will remind the R&B audience of how good Wilson Meadows is.

TK Soul
Born Terence Kimble August 26th 1964 in the southern town of Winnfield La. I began my love for music and musical instruments at the early age of 7.Being a product of the 70s and 80s gave me a range of influences such as, The Jackson 5-Rick James-Prince-Stevie Wonder- Al Green-The Bar- Kays Con funk shun -Maze-AWB- and many many more. Pretty much everything on T.V. or radio at that time played a part in my musical development. At age 10 I got a guitar and soon realized that I could play any tune I heard note for note. Amazed by my God given talent, I began to try other instruments, and soon I was playing drums, piano, bass and lead guitar. By age 14, I was reading music and playing drums in the school band. I was so advanced that I was asked to play in the high school band while I was in jr. high. At age 15 thru 21 I went from school choir to church choir to playing with local bands that I often formed myself. My songwriting began after my first love broke my heart. My brother and I started to D.J. in and around our local area and I would sing at the parties to R&B cover song tracks that I made myself. This was my first time singing solo. Soon I began to make demos, and for the next 8 years I tried to get a major record deal, traveling and living in Baltimore / LA. and Atlanta .Not having the proper knowledge of how that was done, I never got that deal. Not having the proper education or the desire to get it I turned to the one thing I knew how to do, play music. So I began to seek out jobs to play for recording artist. I was playing for the a local group under 21 ( now known as Profyle on Motown Records) when the producer for platinum recording artist H-TOWN saw and heard me play the talk-box and keyboards he hired me on the spot to play for H-TOWN, that’s when it all began to pay off. Although playing all over the world with H-TOWN was one of the high lights of my life, it only prepared me for what was ahead. Soon after that saga ended I started looking for someone to record and sing my so called blues songs. I didn't want to be a singer so I sought and found someone to sing my songs. That someone was one of the best vocalist of my time, Willie Clayton. I got a job playing keyboards for W.C. with the intent for him to sing my songs it worked out and I had a great experience. I wrote the hits Wiggle and Party like we use to. 3 years later I formed my own record label (SOULFUL RECORDS) and T.K. SOUL was born.

Walter Waiters
Born July 20, 1971 in San Antonio, Texas, this Blues man is the cousin of Southern Soul Recording Artist, Mel Waiters. While Mel is a veteran of the Southern Soul circuit, young Walter is making his own mark on the Blues and Southern Soul scene. Like many other recording artist, Walter began his career in the Baptist church. It didn't take long for family members and friends to see that he was blessed with an amazing talent. He would listen to his mother talk to her friends and at night he would listen outside her bedroom to her prayers talking about the struggle to raise seven children alone. This was his first introduction to "The Blues". Growing up in the early 70's, he was influenced early in life by the likes of B.B. King, Little Milton, Booker T & the MG'S and Elvis Presley. Just as B.B. King would learn to master the guitar, young Walter began cutting his teeth on the keyboard. In the late 80's Walter, along with his friend Maurice "Big Moe" Martin formed a two piece band, with Maurice as the drummer and Walter as the keyboard player. The two of them began playing talent shows and local events in the San Antonio area. It was here that young Walter was starting to grow as an artist. Soon after turning 18, he began sneaking into local blues clubs and playing with a lot of the national and local acts that were performing. By the early 90's, Walter had already established himself on the entertainment scene in San Antonio. In 1994, while attending a blues show which included a lineup of Willie Clayton, Buddy Ace and Tyrone Davis, Walter had the opportunity to meet the Silver Fox, Buddy Ace. Walter described the meeting as a life changing experience and credits the singer with giving him the spirit to see his dreams through. Sadly, Buddy Ace passed away a few months later but that encounter began the birth of "THE NEXT BIG THING". Walter is a multi-talented artist in complete control of his career. He's a singer, song-writer, arranger, producer, and a great entertainer. Walter was turned off by record companies early in his music career mainly because of the control the company wanted over his career. In 2001, he released his independent debut CD titled "Don't Scratch My Back," which included his first hit single, "Don't Scratch My Back". In 2003, he released his sophomore CD titled "Laid Back Kind Of Place," which included the hit singles "Doing It" and "Married Man's Blues". In 2005, he released his third CD titled "Staying on My Blues And Keys," which featured the hit singles "Careful Woman" "Creeping" and "Kaylah's Boogie". He performs regularly in the Midwestern states, but he is beginning to expand his shows throughout the Southern region of the United States. His genius on the keyboard has garnered him national fanfare from critics and other recording artists. Blues Boy Willie called him a "Keyboard Extraordinaire". His music is the Blues smoothed out on the southern soul tip. With the boldness and energy of a young Ray Charles, a vintage voice that demands the audiences attention, his electrifying skills on keyboard and his exciting dance moves, Walter is one of the top showmen on the Blues and Southern Soul scene. His life inspires him to sing the Blues and his reflections on where he came from and what he had to work with will only keep the desire to see his dreams come true. With Walter Waiters on the scene, the future of the Blues is in good hands.
